To outsiders, they’re a symbol of conflict. To those who live there, they’re a fulfillment of prophecy. Between ancient vineyards and army checkpoints, settlers in the West Bank balance history, faith, and fear.

This isn’t about compromise. It’s about inheritance. And in a region built on memory, every home is a statement — every hill, a battlefield of belonging.

Big Ideas

  1. Land is not just territory, it carries emotional, spiritual, and historical meaning that shapes identity and belonging.
  2. Understanding complex issues, like that of Israeli settlers, requires empathy, curiosity, and the ability to accept multiple perspectives.
  3. The stories we tell, and the ones we’re told, shape how we see others and ourselves. Media framing, personal experience, and cultural memory all impact how we understand conflict.

Essential Questions

  1. How do different personal, historical, and religious narratives shape different people’s claims to the same land?
  2. What role do fear, memory, and hope play in shaping people’s choices and relationships in a region of ongoing conflict?
  3. How can listening to diverse voices, especially those we don’t often hear, challenge our assumptions and deepen our understanding?
