Every Jewish student deserves to know the story of Israel, not as a slogan or a headline, but as a real history with real depth. That knowledge is part of understanding what it means to be a Jew today. We know how hard it can be to find the time to teach it well. That's why we built this 10-part series: to cover the basics and give your students an excellent foundation.

Essential Questions

  1. What is Zionism, and why does it mean different things to different people?
  2. How do competing narratives shape the way Israel's history is told and understood?
  3. Can a country be both deeply flawed and deeply meaningful at the same time?

Big Ideas

  1. Israel is a source of pride, a homeland and a historic achievement worth celebrating.
  2. That pride can coexist with complexity. Israel's history is contested territory, and understanding it means engaging with multiple narratives, not settling on a single one.
  3. Zionism is not a single ideology but an ongoing debate over what Jewish self-determination should look like.
  4. Understanding how Israel actually works, historically and politically, builds a sturdier foundation than any single argument or talking point.
